SYTYCD6: Top 20 Performances Spoilers

Spoilers in the cut, click View Full Post.

Dancers found out their partners and styles at the end of the intro show.

I put their ages by their names, give or take one year, just for comparison.

Confirmed:
Phillip & Channing - Jive
Nathan & Mollee - Disco
Billy & Pauline - Smooth Waltz
Jakob & Ashleigh - Broadway - Tyce Diorio
Russell & Noelle - Foxtrot
Kevin & Karen - Cha Cha
Legacy & Kathryn - Hip Hop
Ryan & Ellenore: ?
Peter & Ariana ): ?
Victor & Bianca - Contemporary - Travis Wall

No results show the first two weeks because of the MLB World Series but there will be eliminatons. Nigel said something about the judges get to choose who to eliminate the first two weeks, but we're not quite sure as to how that will work.

Note: Please take these spoilers with a grain of salt. The comments saying this post is complete BS -- well I think they're BS. :) I don't know how many times I must say it every spoilers post, but these are just to satisfy those with an urge to know before the scheduled date. If they're wrong, they're wrong, just watch the real show. If they're right, you still watch the real show. Take in consideration those posting can be interns working with the legal team trying to find out who leaked the correct spoilers (in the case a person who really attended the taping would appear). Or they could just be internet trolls. SYTYCDism has been accurate with few or rarely any mistakes, so we would never post anything that didn't have substance behind it.

Disclaimer: I was not at the taping and do NOT owe a million dollars. Hahaha :)

Video: Destini Roger's "Stone" Choreography

Many recognize Applause Studios in Oklahoma as home to renowned choreographer Emily Shock, but some forget it also houses a SYTYCD alum, Destini Rogers (S1). Destini often choreographs and teaches here, but after the opinionated post about who SYTYCD should bring in as a new choreographer, I thought it was appropriate to feature a recent piece she made entitled Stone. Oh and shout out to my buddy Miles Yeung who is also featured in the video as the only boy, haha.

From Destini: "A piece I did for my favorite students using music my favorite artist Ingrid Michaelson's song "Turn to Stone". This piece is the story of my life, and I can't wait to see this piece on a stage with lots of beautiful lighting. I hope these students will continue to work hard on making it a masterpiece. Blessed to be able to call them students. Thank you so much!"

I really enjoyed it, and I think it's fully worth your 3 minutes and 38 seconds of your life because I was already captivated within the first minute. If she could do this with these young dancers, imagine what she could do on SYTYCD as a choreographer? So come on SYTYCD, bring in more alumni!

Edit: Season 7 hopeful Alicia Clifton at 1:45 with the beautiful turn! :o

Video: Sandra Colton - Season One Tapper

It's just a pet peeve of mine when various people kind of forget season one and try to rewrite SYTYCD history, so I just wanted to enlighten our readers and remind them there was indeed a tapper season one named Sandra Colton. She deserves to be remembered and not written over by what seems to be the notion of season six being the first season with tap.

So I guess it's okay to say it's the first time a tapper made the Top 20 (since season one started with a Top 16) but it's not okay and incorrect to say it's the first time a tapper has made the show.

Opinion: Which new choreographer(s) should SYTYCD bring in?!

The SYTYCDism Choreographers Wishlist

Edit: Polls up for hip hop/jazz and contemporary! I can't guarantee they'll get hired, but some publicity wouldn't hurt right?
Edit: Wow, feedback has been great, keep them coming!
Edit: I think I'll gather names and then see which ones are the most popular, then weed out the names and make an actual poll for each category so we can see the statistics.

I know ever since Mia resigned, a lot of people have been discussing different choreographers that SYTYCD & Co. should check out and bring in to choreograph, so I decided to make a formalized post to kind of organize all these ideas.

Just post choreographers' names and styles, and perhaps links to their works, and then I will kind of make a tally as the comments go to see which choreographers are most popular and in-demand, and then send off the results to Nigel or something. Hahaha, discuss away!

We're not asking for them to be like judges or anything. I just think the show's main premise is based on introducing dance to the general public, and what better way to do that than introduce new and exciting choreographers!? I would love to see new faces every so often!

Video: SYTYCD6 - The Photoshoot

Edit: For those wondering, the dancers were given certain lines to say, so not all the words that are coming out of their mouths are from their brains. Take note that this is a TV show and that things are said to boost up certain reality TV qualities. Also they don't always choose what to say in their interviews, a lot of times they are asked to mention certain things about their lives that would again boost reality TV qualities.

Press: Top 20 Week and Eliminations

From a FOX Press Release:
“SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” TOP 20 FINALISTS REVEALED

“SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: MEET THE TOP 20” SPECIAL EDITION

TO SHOWCASE FINALISTS MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, ON FOX

TOP 20 FINALISTS COMPETE AS COUPLES FOR FIRST TIME

AND TWO FINALISTS ELIMINATED AT END OF SHOW

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27

After thousands of auditions across the country and the Las Vegas callbacks, the judges of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE announced Season Six’s Top 20 finalists. The top girls include Channing Cooke, Ariana Debose, Ashleigh Di Lello, Mollee Gray, Karen Hauer, Noelle Marsh, Pauline Mata, Kathryn McCormick, Bianca Revels and Ellenore Scott; and the top guys are Phillip Attmore, Billy Bell, Ryan Di Lello, Russell Ferguson, Kevin Hunte, Jakob Karr, Legacy Perez, Peter Sabasino, Victor Smalley and Nathan Trasoras.

For the first time ever, the Top 20 dancers will make their debut performances on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: MEET THE TOP 20 airing Monday, Oct. 26 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). This special episode will showcase each of the dancers in their own style and genre and will feature group numbers choreographed by some of America’s favorite choreographers. Additionally, viewers will get a chance to learn more about the dancers. Then at the end of the hour, judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Adam Shankman will match the Top 20 with partners for the first performance show airing the following evening.

The competition begins Tuesday, Oct. 27 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) when the Top 20 dance for the judges and America on the season’s first two-hour performance show. The finalists will work as partners with a world-renowned choreographer on a dance routine chosen at random from a number of dance genres. At the end of the episode, the judges will deliberate and then eliminate the first two dancers from the competition. The following week, on Tuesday, Nov. 3 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), the Top 18 will perform and the judges will send another two dancers home.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), the Top 16 will take the stage in another two-hour performance show. Beginning this week, after each Tuesday performance show, the phone lines will open and the fate of the finalists – one of whom will be named America’s Favorite Dancer – will be left up to the voting fans. Tune in the following night, Wednesday, Nov. 11 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) when two finalists are sent home on the first live results show.

SYTYCD6: Top 20 Spoilers

COMPLETE Top 20. Spoilers in the cut. Click View Full Post.

Green mile was filmed in LA.

For those wondering: in my opinion, all Top 32 dancers were extremely worthy of making the Top 20. I firmly believe the level of dancing as a whole is higher than the past seasons and may perhaps reach season three's calibre. This season the judges focused more on personality because they saw how dance ability alone was not enough (season five). That being said, I'm sure if those cut return for season seven, that might be even a more amazing season.

Top 20:

Boys:
- Jonathan "Legacy" Perez (breakdancing)
- Victor Smalley (contemporary)
- Billy Bell (contemporary)
- Ryan Di Lello (latin ballroom)
- Nathan Trasoras (contemporary/hip hop)
- Phillip Attmore (tap)
- Peter Sabasino (tap)
- Russell Ferguson (krump)
- Jakob Karr (contemporary)
- Kevin "K-Bez" Hunte (hip hop)

Girls:
- Bianca Revels (tap)
- Ashleigh Di Lello (latin ballroom)
- Pauline Mata (hip hop/contemporary)
- Karen Hauer (ballroom)
- Mollee Gray (contemporary)
- Ellenore Scott (contemporary)
- Noelle Marsh (contemporary)
- Channing Cooke (contemporary)
- Ariana DeBose (contemporary)
- Kathryn McCormick (contemporary)

Cut:
- Paula VanOppen* (contemporary)
- David Hovhannisyan (ballet)
- Brandon Dumlao (hip hop)
- Jacki Ford (contemporary)
- Trump Card (contemporary)
- Amber Jackson (contemporary)
- Alexie Agdeppa (contemporary)
- Gene Bersten (latin ballroom)
- & everyone else not in the Top 20.

News: Mia Michaels Resigns from So You Think You Can Dance

From Rickey.org:

Discuss below!

Edit: Confirmed, Mia has resigned. Details soon.

My thoughts:
1. It's not the end of the world.
2. Even though she is a great choreographer and a huge SYTYCD asset, the door is now open for other just as amazing choreographers, as long as TPTB take the initiative to find them.
3. Nigel has given Mia an open invitation to come back and choreograph whenever she likes.
4. Travis Wall is choreographing Top 20 week.

Video: Jakob Karr Audition in New Orleans

Here's Jakob Karr's audition from New Orleans. I'm kind of sad about how much they cut off of his solo, but it's okay because he still got airtime! :) Can't wait to see more of him in the next few episodes!

From rickey.org:
Jakob Karr already has a huge following even before this audition on the show, and it will only get bigger. He’s won some national titles already. I am so happy he is sharing his talent to a national audience on SYTYCD.

From Buddy TV:
If I could draw little hearts around his name I would. Seriously. In a season full, hell overflowing with talented male contemporary dancers, none come close to comparing to Jacob (sic) Karr. This man is pure perfection on the dance floor with extension that would make giraffes jealous and height on his jumps that seems physically impossible. Unless there is another tragic Alex Wong situation on our hands, there is not a chance in hell that Jacob isn't making the Top 20 of season 6 and I'd go so far as to venture the top 5. This boy is pure magic on the dance floor.

Haha I'm so glad my prehyping was worth it!

Jakob, what's one thing you would like America to know?
I dance for them. I dance because I know that when I see someone who obviously loves what he or she is doing, I am completely inspired. If someone can look at me and know that I love what I'm doing, then I feel like I have returned a favor to the world.

Team Jakob!

News: Adam Shankman to be the third SYTYCD permanent judge

Press release from MJ's Big Blog:

Acclaimed producer, director and choreographer Adam Shankman has joined SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE as a third judge. Shankman, who has been a guest judge and choreographer on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE since 2007, will sit alongside Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe and draw upon his expertise to critique the dancers throughout the competition.

The all-new fall season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE airs Tuesdays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Wednesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Shankman, who serves as a guest judge on this season’s audition episodes, will join the judges’ panel beginning with the Top 20 performance show Tuesday, Oct. 27 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

“SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is one of the most important things to happen in the last decade for the art form,” said Shankman. “Choreography is how I found my way into this business, and I’m proud to be a part of the show. As a filmmaker, it’s an honor to be able to recognize choreographers and dancers, and to be able to bring all of this amazing work into America’s homes. These kids challenge themselves every week, and it’s great for people to see how terrific these dancers are.”

“I am extremely happy that Adam has agreed to be a resident judge,” said Nigel Lythgoe, Executive Producer/Co-Creator, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. “We love bantering and bickering, and yet he still finds a way of capturing the sensitivity of every story told on stage. He is a consummate professional with a passion for dance and a discerning eye, which makes him perfect for us. Plus, it must be remembered, it takes a slightly crazy person to work with me and Mary.”

Adam Shankman is a master of comedy and one of the most loved and commercially successful filmmakers of his generation. His recent credits include “Bedtime Stories” starring Adam Sandler and Keri Russell, “17 Again” starring Zac Efron and “Hairspray,” the feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical. Shankman also directed the hit viral video “Prop 8: The Musical” for FunnyorDie.com, which was honored by GLAAD and has been viewed over 4 million times.

Shankman’s directorial debut was “The Wedding Planner” starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey. He followed that project with “A Walk to Remember” starring Mandy Moore and Shane West and “Bringing Down the House” with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah. His other credits include “The Pacifier” starring Vin Diesel, “Step Up,” “Step Up 2” and “Premonition” with Sandra Bullock. Shankman’s upcoming films include “Step Up 3-D,” “Going The Distance” starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long and “The Last Song” starring Miley Cyrus.

Prior to directing, Shankman was one of the premiere dance and physical comedy choreographers who put his creative stamp on such projects as “The Addams Family,” “Casper,” “Inspector Gadget,” “Anastasia,” “George of the Jungle,” “Boogie Nights,” “Miami Rhapsody” and “The Flintstones,” for which he was nominated for a Bob Fosse Award. Shankman teamed up with influential video director Julian Temple to choreograph Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” He has also choreographed videos for The B-52’s, Barry White, Aaron Neville, Chic and Stevie Wonder.

A native of Los Angeles, Shankman developed a love for the theater at an early age. After high school, he moved to New York to attend The Juilliard School. After five years as an actor and dancer in New York, he moved back to his hometown and began dancing in music videos for artists such as Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson.
