Video: Jakob Karr Audition in New Orleans

Here's Jakob Karr's audition from New Orleans. I'm kind of sad about how much they cut off of his solo, but it's okay because he still got airtime! :) Can't wait to see more of him in the next few episodes!

From rickey.org:
Jakob Karr already has a huge following even before this audition on the show, and it will only get bigger. He’s won some national titles already. I am so happy he is sharing his talent to a national audience on SYTYCD.

From Buddy TV:
If I could draw little hearts around his name I would. Seriously. In a season full, hell overflowing with talented male contemporary dancers, none come close to comparing to Jacob (sic) Karr. This man is pure perfection on the dance floor with extension that would make giraffes jealous and height on his jumps that seems physically impossible. Unless there is another tragic Alex Wong situation on our hands, there is not a chance in hell that Jacob isn't making the Top 20 of season 6 and I'd go so far as to venture the top 5. This boy is pure magic on the dance floor.

Haha I'm so glad my prehyping was worth it!

Jakob, what's one thing you would like America to know?
I dance for them. I dance because I know that when I see someone who obviously loves what he or she is doing, I am completely inspired. If someone can look at me and know that I love what I'm doing, then I feel like I have returned a favor to the world.

Team Jakob!

News: Adam Shankman to be the third SYTYCD permanent judge

Press release from MJ's Big Blog:

Acclaimed producer, director and choreographer Adam Shankman has joined SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE as a third judge. Shankman, who has been a guest judge and choreographer on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE since 2007, will sit alongside Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe and draw upon his expertise to critique the dancers throughout the competition.

The all-new fall season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE airs Tuesdays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Wednesdays (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Shankman, who serves as a guest judge on this season’s audition episodes, will join the judges’ panel beginning with the Top 20 performance show Tuesday, Oct. 27 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

“SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is one of the most important things to happen in the last decade for the art form,” said Shankman. “Choreography is how I found my way into this business, and I’m proud to be a part of the show. As a filmmaker, it’s an honor to be able to recognize choreographers and dancers, and to be able to bring all of this amazing work into America’s homes. These kids challenge themselves every week, and it’s great for people to see how terrific these dancers are.”

“I am extremely happy that Adam has agreed to be a resident judge,” said Nigel Lythgoe, Executive Producer/Co-Creator, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. “We love bantering and bickering, and yet he still finds a way of capturing the sensitivity of every story told on stage. He is a consummate professional with a passion for dance and a discerning eye, which makes him perfect for us. Plus, it must be remembered, it takes a slightly crazy person to work with me and Mary.”

Adam Shankman is a master of comedy and one of the most loved and commercially successful filmmakers of his generation. His recent credits include “Bedtime Stories” starring Adam Sandler and Keri Russell, “17 Again” starring Zac Efron and “Hairspray,” the feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical. Shankman also directed the hit viral video “Prop 8: The Musical” for FunnyorDie.com, which was honored by GLAAD and has been viewed over 4 million times.

Shankman’s directorial debut was “The Wedding Planner” starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey. He followed that project with “A Walk to Remember” starring Mandy Moore and Shane West and “Bringing Down the House” with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah. His other credits include “The Pacifier” starring Vin Diesel, “Step Up,” “Step Up 2” and “Premonition” with Sandra Bullock. Shankman’s upcoming films include “Step Up 3-D,” “Going The Distance” starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long and “The Last Song” starring Miley Cyrus.

Prior to directing, Shankman was one of the premiere dance and physical comedy choreographers who put his creative stamp on such projects as “The Addams Family,” “Casper,” “Inspector Gadget,” “Anastasia,” “George of the Jungle,” “Boogie Nights,” “Miami Rhapsody” and “The Flintstones,” for which he was nominated for a Bob Fosse Award. Shankman teamed up with influential video director Julian Temple to choreograph Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” He has also choreographed videos for The B-52’s, Barry White, Aaron Neville, Chic and Stevie Wonder.

A native of Los Angeles, Shankman developed a love for the theater at an early age. After high school, he moved to New York to attend The Juilliard School. After five years as an actor and dancer in New York, he moved back to his hometown and began dancing in music videos for artists such as Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson.

Article: Vitolio joins Garth Fagan Dance

s5's Vitolio Jeune has just been hired by the world-renowned company Garth Fagan Dance and will make his debut at the Nazareth College Arts Center opening on Sept. 26.

In 2006, Fagan visited the New World School of the Arts in Miami to teach classes. At the same time, he also was scoping for talent for his company. Jeune immediately caught his eye.

"He pulled me on the side and was like, 'Wow, you're a beautiful dancer. I would want you to come dance with my company,'" said Jeune about his first conversation with Fagan. Jeune wasn't finished with school yet, and he told Fagan he'd love to try when he graduated.

"He was just amazing in class," remembers Fagan.

"This dude just had it all: Technique, presence, personality, intelligence, intellect — all the things I love in dancers."

Jeune was all set to join the company after graduation this past spring, but he first auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance on a whim.

Solid TV Ratings For SYTYCD Season Six Premiere?

8 p.m.

NBC: Presidential address (8.2 million viewers, 5.2/9 households)
ABC: Presidential address (7.4 million, 4.5/7)
FOX: "So You Think You Can Dance" season premiere (6.5 million, 3.9/6)
CBS: Presidential address (5.6 million, 3.8/6)
The CW: "America's Next Top Model" season premiere (3.1 million, 2.1/3)

18-49 leader: "So You Think You Can Dance" (2.7)

Seems like So You Think You Can Dance did pretty well, considering that President Obama had his address to Congress during the same hour. Solid start for season six, in my opinion! Congratulations, SYTYCD.

An uncensored, unedited interview with Nick will most definitely be something you do not want to miss! This interview will address the issues that the SYTYCD-viewing public have brought up.

As of right now, I (Trandrew) will be going live with Nick on Tuesday, September 8th @ 4PM PDT/7PM EDT!

This is going to be our first ever live webcast with a (former) contestant, so please bear with us if any technical difficulties come up. Stay tuned as we're continuing to schedule interviews with Travis Wall/Mark Kanemura, Natalie Fotopoulos, and Jeanine Mason.

** Note: You will need a USTREAM account to post any comments, questions, or concerns in the chat! It's really easy to make one and takes only a couple minutes!

Edit: Here's the replay of the interview! Enjoy! :)
